The World's Largest Totem Pole

Located in our little town of McKinleyville is the World's Largest Totem Pole.

It was designed by Ernie Pierson and Johnny Nelson and is carved into a 160 foot single redwood log (over 500 years old) making it the largest totem pole in the world. It was erected in 1962 to celebrate the opening of the McKinleyville Shopping Center.
(It is actually next to and behind a Safeway....still, pretty cool right?)

  2. Very cool! I wonder if we have ever been to your town before. I recall staying at Myers Flat, is that close to you?
