The Oregon Trail

#AtoZChallenge 2021 April Blogging from A to Z Challenge letter O

Many American pioneers made their way West along the Oregon Trail in the 1800s to seek their fortunes. I was lucky enough to make the journey a few years ago, although I was lucky to be driving a car instead of a covered wagon on my journey West.

The Oregon Trail, or in my case, Interstate 84 is a historical and scenic way to explore Oregon from Idaho to Portland.

The highway meanders down through the
Blue Mountains as you enter Oregon.

In the Spring and early summer months wildflowers seem to be around every turn!

The Upper Perry Arch Bridge, built in 1924, is a wonderful place to stop and walk the pups and/or stretch your legs.

Dalles, the largest community on the east side of the Columbia River, is where the Columbia River widens and becomes the Columbia Gorge. It also is the home of the Dalles Dam.

The views of the Gorge are breathtaking.

The Interstate runs through numerous parks as you travel the last leg of the I-84 towards Portland.  I highly recommend stopping to view one of the many waterfalls in the area.

From mountains and wildflowers, to wonderful views of waterfalls and the Columbia Gorge, the Oregon Trail/Interstate 84 has something for everyone!

Hana Highway

#AtoZChallenge 2021 April Blogging from A to Z Challenge letter H

To celebrate the Letter H today let's take a look at my three favorite stops along the Hana Highway!

The Hana Highway is a popular coastal drive on the island of Maui, Hawaii. Winding along the Southern shoreline of Maui there are a variety of places to stop and experience island beauty.

Our first stop along the Hana Highway is the Garden of Eden Arboretum and Botanical Gardens,  a privately owned garden with beautiful views and a wide variety of tropical color!

The gardens were the perfect place to experience the beautiful blooms Maui had to offer, including this lobster claw plant ( aka Heliconia rostrata)

Next, on the best of the Hana Highway, is Black Sand Beach at Waianapanapa State Park.  It's hard to describe the beauty of the cobalt blue water washing up on the black lava sand, surrounded by beautiful emerald foliage.

It doesn't get much more beautiful.

Wrapping up my Hana Highway favorites, are the waterfalls that seem to be around every turn!

Living in the Pacific Northwest I have seen my share of waterfalls but there is something special about
Hawaiian waterfalls!

Let's close out the day with a little look-see-listen!
